Description

UNIPRIM Oral Powder contains trimethoprim, a synthetic antibacterial, and sulfadiazine, a sulfonamide in combination at a ratio of 1:5. The two components of UNIPRIM Oral Powder produce a sequential blockade of bacterial metabolism, giving a level of activity many times greater than that obtained from either drug alone.

UNIPRIM Oral Powder provides effective antibacterial activity against a wide range of infections caused by Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria.

Uniprim Oral Powder (Apple Flavoured) Dosage And Administration

The usual dose of UNIPRIM Oral Powder for horses, ponies and foals is 3.75 g per 50 kg. The content of two 32 cc scoops (37.5 g) is sufficient to treat 500 kg live weight. This dose provides 30 mg/kg bodyweight of actives daily.

The powder should be mixed with a small amount of palatable feed. UNIPRIM Oral Powder is palatable but if the treated horse does not consume the medication in total, then parenteral or individual oral dosage with an alternative product should be considered.

Treatment should be given once daily until 2-3 days after the animal becomes asymptomatic. The usual course of treatment is for not longer than 7 consecutive days.

Contraindications

UNIPRIM Oral Powder should not be used in horses showing marked liver parenchymal damage or blood dyscrasias, nor in those with a history of sulfonamide sensitivity.

Uniprim Oral Powder (Apple Flavoured) Cautions
