TA5 Tissue Adhesive
This treatment applies to the following species:Description
TA5 Tissue Adhesive is a cyanoacrylate based tissue adhesive offered in a 3gr multi-use product with five separate applicators.
INDICATIONS FOR USE
Tissue Adhesive is indicated for closure of animal skin in clean, fresh wounds with easily apposed edges.
Tissue Adhesive should be applied by trained veterinary staff.
Contraindications
Do not apply to internal organs, blood vessels, nerve tissue or mucous membranes.
Do not apply to infected or chronic wounds. Do not apply Tissue Adhesive over a pool of blood or fluid. This may cause polymerization, poor skin closure and premature sloughing.
Do not apply excessive amounts of adhesive. A light, thin coat gives the best results.
Do not use in the management of deep puncture wounds or where an underlying infection is suspected.
Do not allow Tissue Adhesive to enter the wound. Use a skin closure only.
PREPARATION OF THE INCISION SITE
Subcutaneous tissue should be closed as per current practice.
Skin edges would be approximated without excess subcutaneous tissue protrusion.
TISSUE ADHESIVE VET SKIN CLOSURE TECHNIQUE
After subcutaneous closure is complete, blot the incision line with sterile gauze.
Unscrew cap from 3gr bottle, remove applicator and fix to the exposed spout of the bottle. Holding the applicator above the incision line, apply slight pressure, thus releasing the adhesive in a thin line, while pinching the apposed line to maintain closure.
DO NOT OVER-APPLY. A thin application of the adhesive will be sufficient.
Allow Tissue Adhesive to fully polymerize, this will take approximately five seconds.
POST OPERATIVE CARE
No further care of the incision site is usually necessary.
Automutilation is unusual due to the Tissue Adhesive sealing action (no oozing or bleeding to attract the animal).
Tissue Adhesive provides a waterproof barrier to dirt, fluids and other environmental hazards.
A separate dressing can applied if desired.
Tissue Adhesive will slough off naturally after the incision heals (typically five days).
PRECAUTIONS & WARNINGS
If Tissue Adhesive gets into the eye, immediately rinse with water to lessen the chance of adhesion.
As Tissue Adhesive dries, heat is produced. If excess Tissue Adhesive is applied or excess blood not removed from the wound, thermal damage to the tissue may occur.
STORAGE
Do not use beyond the expiration date stated on the container.
Tissue Adhesive is recommended to be stored below 40°F.
