DESCRIPTION:

Duplocillin® LA is a sterile aqueous antibiotic suspension for injection, containing per mL:

Active Ingredients:

150,000 IU Benzylpenicillin procaine (B.P.)

150,000 IU Benzylpenicillin benzathine (B.P.)

Preservatives:

1.0 mg Methylparahydroxybenzoate

0.12 mg Propylparahydroxybenzoate

Non-medicinal ingredients:

10.87 mg sodium citrate dihydrate

0.3 mg potassium dihydrogen phosphate

0.16 mg dimethicone

0.5 mg sorbitan monopalmitate

0.5 mg polysorbate 40

3.0 mg sodium chloride

5.0 mg lecithin

Ad 1 ml Water for Injection

INDICATIONS:

Duplocillin® LA is an antibiotic indicated as an aid in the treatment of local and systemic infections caused by bacteria including metritis, strangles and tetanus in horses; blackleg, foot rot, metritis and shipping fever complex in cattle; erysipelas, mastitis and metritis in swine; clostridial diseases and foot rot in sheep and metritis, respiratory infections and wound infections in dogs and cats, where a prolongation of the therapeutic period from a single injection is required.

Penicillin has been shown in vitro to be effective against gram positive aerobic bacteria, including certain strains of Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus Spp., Actinomyces Spp. (Corynebacteria) and Erysipelothrix rhusiopathiae. Sensitive gram positive anaerobic bacteria include certain strains of Clostridia Spp. Penicillin has also been shown in vitro to be effective against certain gram negative bacteria, including certain strains of Pasteurella multocida and Actinobacillus (Haemophilus) pleuropneumoniae.

DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION:

Duplocillin LA should be given by deep intramuscular injection. Shake well before using.

The following dosage rates are recommended:

Horses and Cattle: 6000 I.U. each of Benzylpenicillin procaine and Benzylpenicillin benzathine/kg of body weight. 1 mL/25 kg, 10 mL/250 kg, 16 mL/400 kg, or 20 mL/500 kg of body weight.

Sheep and swine: 7500 I.U. each of Benzylpenicillin procaine and Benzylpenicillin benzathine/kg of body weight. 1 mL/20 kg, 2 mL/40 kg, or 3 mL/60 kg of body weight.

Dogs and cats: 15000 I.U. each of Benzylpenicillin procaine and Benzylpenicillin benzathine/kg of body weight. 0.5 mL/5 kg, 1 mL/10 kg, or 2 mL/20 kg of body weight.

Accurate determination of body weight is important to ensure proper dosage. Repeat the dose in 3 to 5 days if required. The usual aseptic precautions should be followed. If no improvement of the condition is noted within 36-48 hours, the treatment/diagnosis should be reevaluated and a veterinarian consulted.

CAUTIONS:

Duplocillin® LA should not be administered to animals known to be allergic to penicillin. In case of an anaphylactic reaction administer epinephrine immediately. In suckling and fattening pigs, administration of Benzylpenicillin procaine penicillin G will occasionally cause a transient pyrexia, vomiting, shivering and incoordination. Abortions have also been reported in pregnant sows and gilts.

For intramuscular use only.

WARNINGS:

Treated animals must not be slaughtered for use in food for at least 14 days after the latest treatment with this drug. Do not use in lactating dairy cows. Do not use in horses intended for food. Keep out of reach of children.

STORAGE:

Store below 15°C. Do not freeze.

SUPPLY:

100 mL, 250 mL and 500 mL plastic bottles or glass vials.
