Chlorhexidine Gluconate and Miconazole Nitrate Shampoo

Topical antibacterial and antifungal shampoo for dogs and cats

Active ingredients (per L): 20 g chlorhexidine gluconate, Ph. Eur. and 20 g miconazole nitrate USP.

Warnings

Keep out of reach of children. This product can irritate the eyes and skin. Avoid contact with eyes and skin. When using product, wear rubber gloves. Wash hands after use. In case of accidental contact, rinse thoroughly with running water.

Indications: Dogs: For the treatment of seborrheic dermatitis associated with infections by Staphylococcus pseudintermedius and/or Malassezia pachydermatis.

Cats: As an aid in the treatment and control of dermatophytosis (ringworm) infections caused by Microsporum canis, in conjunction with systemic antifungal therapy.

Dosage and Administration: Dogs: 50 mL of shampoo is adequate to treat a 35 kg dog with medium-length hair (1.5 mL/kg of body weight). Repeat twice weekly for 3 weeks, then weekly as directed by the veterinarian. If seborrheic signs are not improving after 2 to 3 weeks of treatment, the diagnosis should be re-evaluated. Treatment should not exceed 10 consecutive weeks.

Cats: 10 mL of shampoo is adequate to treat an adult cat. Repeat twice weekly for a minimum of 3 weeks. The decision to stop treatment should be based on a negative fungal culture. If clinical signs do not improve within 3 weeks or if skin irritation develops, discontinue treatment and consult a veterinarian. All in-contact cats should be treated with this shampoo to limit infection spreading and environmental contamination. Treatment should not exceed 9 consecutive weeks.

Directions for Use: Wet the animal thoroughly with clean water. Apply Dermcare Malaseb® Medicated Shampoo on the animal at several points and massage into the coat. A sponge assists lathering and penetration of shampoo into the coat.

Ensure that this shampoo is applied around the nose, on the muzzle and chin, under the tail and between the toes as these areas harbour causative organisms. Leave shampoo on the animal for 10 minutes and then rinse off thoroughly with clean water.

Contraindications: Do not use this shampoo on rabbits or species other than dogs or cats.

Cautions: FOR EXTERNAL USE ONLY. Dermcare Malaseb® Medicated Shampoo should not be used on pregnant, lactating or breeding cats and dogs, as its safety has not been evaluated in these animals. Use with caution around eyes. In case of contact, rinse thoroughly with clean water. Seek veterinary advice if eye irritation or discharge is observed. Animals should not be left unattended during the recommended 10 minute shampoo contact time as licking or inhaling the shampoo foam may result in irritation of the gastrointestinal or respiratory tracts. Erythema caused by a potential hypersensitivity to Malassezia IgE or toxins may occur in atopic or allergic dogs.

Storage: Store below 25°C.
