Hydrocortisone / urea topical Pregnancy Warnings

Hydrocortisone-urea has been assigned to pregnancy category C by the FDA. Animal studies have revealed evidence of teratogenicity when corticosteroids are administered orally or potent steroids are applied topically. There are no controlled data in human pregnancy. Hydrocortisone-urea is only recommended for use during pregnancy when benefit outweighs risk. Corticosteroids should not be used extensively on pregnant patients, in large amounts or for extended periods of time.

There are no data on the excretion of hydrocortisone-urea into human milk. The manufacturer recommends that caution be used when administering hydrocortisone-urea to nursing women.
