What do I need to know about a newborn x-ray?

An x-ray may be needed to show problems that are hard to see during a physical exam. An x-ray can be done on any area of your baby's body.

What will happen during the x-ray?

Your baby will be placed on a table and positioned depending on which body area needs an x-ray. The rest of your baby's body will be covered to protect him or her from the x-ray beam. You may need to leave the room while the pictures are taken.

What are the risks of an x-ray?

Your baby will be exposed to a low amount of radiation. Radiation can harm body cells.
