This treatment applies to the following species:
Company: Grober

- For artificially rearing newborn piglets

- Supplementing sow’s milk

Grober Mixing Chart for 1 litre of Piglet Milk Replacer

1. Weigh 150 g of powder per litre of solution (A scale provides the best precision).

2. Mix with 0.5 litre warm water (60°C) using a whisk, for 3 minutes.

3. Add 0.45 litre cold water and mix again (Total 1 litre).

4. Feed the milk replacer solution at body temperature (approx. 40°C) (A thermometer provides the best precision).

PigletGro can also be used with automatic milk distribution systems, which mixes thoroughly the powder with water at 40-45°C, cool it down afterwards and feed it at room temperature (approx. 25-30°C)

General Recommendations

- This feeding schedule will require approximately 2.5kg of powder per piglet.

- Frequent feeding of small amounts will decrease digestive upsets.

- Quantities offered should be adjusted to weight, increasing gradually from birth to weaning.

- When piglets show signs of diarrhea, or in cases of over-consumption, stop feeding milk replacer and start offering a high-energy electrolyte solution for 12-24 hours. Once the diarrhea has cleared up, re-introduce the milk replacer.

- Clean ALL feeding utensils and equipment after each feeding: rinse in lukewarm water, wash with a detergent in hot (80°C) water, rinse with clean water (ideally a 5-10% bleach solution daily) and dry thoroughly with a ‘clean’ towel.

- Fresh, clean water should be available at all time.

Supplemental Feeding To Sow’s Milk

- Supplementary milk can be introduced to the piglets as soon as 2-4 days of age.

- The milk solution can be offered via a nipple bottle or an open recipient. Both have to be maintained clean, particularly the recipient that has been contaminated by urine or faeces.

Feeding Orphaned Piglets

- For piglets reared completely away from the sow, it is best if they can receive sow’s milk for the first 2-4 days. If not possible, prepare a mixture of colostrum supplement and milk replacer for that same period of time.
