Toporol

Toporol is a common misspelling of Toprol (metoprolol).

What is Toprol (Toporol)?

Toprol (Toporol) is a beta-adrenergic blocking agent ("beta blocker"). It works by reducing the amount of work the heart has to do and the amount of blood the heart pumps out.

Toprol (Toporol) is used to treat high blood pressure, alone or with other medicines, the long-term treatment of chest pain (angina) and reducing the risk of death because of heart problems in patients who have had a heart attaack. Toprol (Toporol) is also used to stabilize the heart rhythm in conditions in which the heart is beating too fast or in an irregular rhythm. Toprol (Toporol) may also be used for other conditions as determined by your doctor.

If you have high blood pressure, you must take Toprol (Toporol) regularly for it to be effective. Since blood pressure declines gradually, it may be several weeks before you get the full benefit of Toprol (Toporol); and you must continue taking it even if you are feeling well. Toprol (Toporol) does not cure high blood pressure; it merely keeps it under control.
