What is clindamycin (clindomycin)?

Clindamycin (clindomycin) is used to treat serious infections caused by certain bacteria in the body. It is not used to treat meningitis.

Clindamycin (clindomycin) is a lincomycin antibiotic. Clindamycin (clindomycin) kills sensitive bacteria by stopping the production of essential proteins needed by the bacteria to survive.

Clindamycin (clindomycin) may also be used for purposes other than those listed here.

Be sure to use clindamycin (clindomycin) for the full course of treatment. If you do not, clindamycin (clindomycin) may not clear up your infection completely. The bacteria could also become less sensitive to this or other medicines. This could make the infection harder to treat in the future.
