What is Antabuse (Antibuse)?
Antabuse (Antibuse) is an alcohol-abuse deterrent used, along with counseling and support, to treat chronic alcoholism. Antabuse (Antibuse) works by blocking the breakdown of alcohol, causing unpleasant side effects (eg, vomiting, upset stomach) when even a small amount of alcohol is consumed.
These effects include flushing of the face, headache, nausea, vomiting, chest pain, weakness, blurred vision, mental confusion, sweating, choking, breathing difficulty, and anxiety.
Antabuse (Antibuse) may also be used for purposes other than those listed here.
Antabuse (Antibuse) side effects may include drowsiness, tiredness, headache, acne and metallic/garlic-like taste in the mouth.
Antabuse (Antibuse) should not be used if you have severe heart/blood vessel disease or certain mental/mood conditions.
